POKOTABI / Haru
中華蕎麦 はる
Haru in Shimo-Igusa serves carefully composed chuka soba combining chicken and seafood broth, along with niboshi ramen, tsukemen, and rotating rice bowls.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
With straight thin noodles resting beneath a clear broth, topped neatly with tender chicken and pork chashu, crisp bamboo shoots, and greens, the signature chuka soba displays Haru's meticulous approach. The broth draws on chicken and seafood for a gentle, gradually unfolding depth rather than overt punch, carrying the noodles smoothly with every slurp.
The menu extends well beyond the classic chuka soba. Diners can select a broth to match their mood, from the aromatic dried-sardine notes of the niboshi ramen to the richer body of the concentrated chicken-and-seafood paitan, or the concentrated seafood dipping broth of the tsukemen. Seasonal limited offerings also appear periodically, including wonton noodles, Sichuan dan dan noodles, and chilled noodles, giving regular visitors something fresh to discover.
Side rice bowls rotate by the day of the week. On Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the kitchen prepares a mapo rice bowl layered with tingling spice, while Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays bring a thoughtfully conceived seasonal rice bowl, both offering a satisfying counterpoint to the noodle soups. An almond jelly dessert provides a clean, refreshing finish.
Seating is centered on a quiet counter, where the owner prepares each bowl with focused attention. Orders are placed through a ticket machine that accepts cash only, and advance reservations are not taken. It is an appealing retreat for a quiet solo lunch or dinner when time allows for savoring the bowl.
